Features Of Windows XP

Even though Microsoft has decided to end the support for Windows XP operating systems by April this year, millions of customers still use this operating system. Now, if you are one of those customers, we will help you to remove the unwanted programs from the operating system and in turn speed up your computer.

Steps Involved

According to Windows XP help center, you can remove the unwanted or unused programs with a few simple clicks. Let us go through the steps listed below.

  • Open the Start menu and go to Control Panel.
  • Select the option Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel window.
  • You will find the option Sort By on the right top of the window. Choose the option Frequency of use in this window from the drop down list.
  • The above step will list the programs that you rarely use on top. You will find the date on which you last used the program. You will also find the size of the program.
  • You may remove the programs that come under the category, rarely or occasionally.
  • It is also advised that you remove the programs, which you do not intend to use in the future. However, it is important that you do not uninstall the programs like antivirus programs, device drivers etc.
  • Once you finish removing the programs from the list, it is advised that you delete the corresponding folders of these programs. For this, open your computer’s C: drive and go to the folder Programs Files where you will find the folder for the program removed from your computer.
  • Select the option Add or Remove Windows Components once you remove the folders. This is present in the left pane of the window.

    Uninstall Windows XP Programs

  • The above step will open the Windows Components Wizard. It lists various Microsoft programs available with your operating system. Some of them are installed in your computer while others are not. If there is a tick mark near the program, it means that the corresponding Windows program is installed in your computer. If you do not use any of these check marked programs, uncheck the same and select the option Next. The Windows component will be removed from your computer. Click Finish once this process is over.

We hope that the steps listed above have helped you to remove unwanted programs from your computer. For additional assistance, you may contact the Windows XP help center or our technical support team.
