Playing games is one of the primary reasons for some to use a computer. In fact, we spend a great deal our time playing games in the computer. If you have long been aware of computer games, I am sure you wouldn’t forget Myst.

Myst was a computer game released in 1993. It has become very popular within a short time as it was one of the few first person adventure games. Even today Myst is counted as one of the best selling games, although in new form and sequels.

When you try to install Myst in your Windows XP running PC, it is possible that you’ll end up with an installation failure or come across some weird behavior. Never lose hope; following some easy steps, you can install your favorite game in your Windows XP system eliminating the potential errors. One such step is installing Myst in the compatibility mode. Follow the below given Windows XP help steps.

How to install Myst in compatibility Mode

Instructions

  • Boot your Windows XP machine. Wait for the desktop to load fully.
  • Insert the CD with Myst game in the CD drive.
  • Wait for the CD to load and for the Autorun windows with Install prompt to appear.
  • Follow the on screen installation prompts. Click on the Next button.

  • When you are prompted with a request whether you wish to copy the files to computer hard drive click on Yes.
  • If you haven’t installed QuickTime in your PC, you will have to install this too.
  • Press on the OK button followed by Install and Start to proceed.  
  • Click on the Skip button when you are prompted with a registration wizard.
  • Select Close in order to go to the desktop.
  • Now, navigate to the Start button and then click on All Programs from the drop-down menu.
  • Click on Broderbund Software from the menu to go to the Myst option.
  • Right click on Myst and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
  • Select Compatibility tab. Check the box named Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 95.
  • Check the box titled Run in 256 colors and press on the OK button to proceed.
  • Again navigate to the Start menu and click on Myst to launch the game.
